Kyrie Irving one-ups Luka Doncic in first game together, Mavericks lose at Kings

Dallas Mavericks teammates Kyrie Irving and Luka Doncic unfortunately lost their first game together, an overtime defeat at the hands of De’Aaron Fox and the Sacramento Kings, Saturday at Golden 1 Center.

Doncic, 23, made his return to the court after missing four games with a right heel contusion. His 27-point performance, including five assists and nine rebounds, was one-upped by his new partner.

Irving, 30, finished the game with a team-high 28 points, seven assists and seven rebounds, addind one block and a steal. In OT, Irving scored a shot from beyond the arc that brought Dallas within three points of a draw.

Doncic had the chance of scoring the game-tying triple to possibly force double-overtime, but his shot bricked out. He also passed the ball on their final possession of regulation instead of shooting it himself.

Fox, 25, only had 10 points for the Kings entering the final frame against the Mavs and managed to finish the contest with a game-high 36 points.

De’Aaron Fox outshines both Luka and Kyrie

Sacramento sits in third place of the Western Conference with a 32-24 record, one spot above Dallas (31-27).

Fox continues to prove that the franchise did well in choosing him over Tyrese Haliburton.

Haliburton, 22, is playing phenomenally with the Indiana Pacers, but Fox is going to lead Sac-Town into the postseason for the first time in 16 years. Not even a Luka-Kyrie combo was able to stop him.

As for Irving and Doncic, they seem to feed off each other, and will likely only continue to improve. Mavericks host the Minnesota Timberwolves (30-29) Monday, while Kings visit the Phoenix Suns (31-27) Tuesday.
