After the victory at Clermont (2-0) on Saturday evening during the 23rd day of Ligue 1, Valentin Rongier did not hide his satisfaction at seeing his team come back to within five points of Paris Saint-Germain two weeks from Classico at the Stade Velodrome.
A true keeper of Igor Tudor, the Marseille midfielder again produced a solid performance at the Gabriel-Montpied stadium, three days after an exceptional match against PSG in the round of 16 of the Coupe de France (2-1). Despite this significant success in the race for the Champions League, Rongier nevertheless prefers to keep his feet on the ground. “We are not unstoppable, we must not ignite. I remind you that we lost against Nice a few days ago. We are far from perfect but there are a lot of positive things, we have to build on them and we keep working”underlined the Olympian captain.
The trap has been avoided
This trip to Clermont was not taken lightly, far from it, by the players of Igor Tudor. The Croatian technician had immediately remobilized his troops the day after the victory against PSG in order to avoid falling into a certain euphoria. “We thought it was a trap game par excellence, we stayed focused and very professional in the way we prepared it, which allowed us to enter our game well and win”explained the OM midfielder.
Sanchez, boss size!
After the match, Rongier also wanted to congratulate his teammate Alexis Sanchez, who scored twice on the lawn of Clermont (9 goals in Ligue 1 this season). “We like it! He scores goals for us, does us a lot of good, he’s really a great player. He brings us all his quality, all his experience. We are very happy to have him and it must continue”he concluded.
