For LeBron James last Tuesday night was magical, in the game between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Oklahoma City Thunder he surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the top scorer in NBA regular season history. This Thursday he decided to rest and not face the Milwaukee Bucks, however, that doesn’t mean he wasn’t the main star at Crypto.com Arena.
The LeBron James recognition ceremony
Before the tip-off between Lakers and Bucks, dressed in an elegant suit and accompanied by his family, the “King” was given a standing ovation by all the attendees in a special ceremony organized to honor him. In it, James took the microphone to thank those who inspired them to become one of the best players of all time in the NBA in a career that, for now, already has 20 seasons.
Among other things, the former Cleveland Cavaliers and Miami Heat player asked for recognition for his “starting 5” who accompanied him to the ceremony: wife Savannah, sons Bronny and Bryce, daughter Zhuri and mother Gloria. Later he talked about his basketball idols before being selected #1 in the 2003 Draft.
LeBron James’ emotional speech
“I had dreams every day of playing in the NBA,” James said. “I had dreams every day of being an inspiration to so many people. I had dreams of being able one day to throw no-look passes like Magic Johnson. To be able to shoot fadeaways like Michael Jordan. To be able to have a crossover like Allen Iverson. To be able to have an afro and jump in the dunk contest like Kobe Bryant. I looked up to so many athletes and so many people along my journey and they gave me the inspiration and they allowed my dreams to not die.”
The Lakers lost to the Bucks by a score of 115-106, worsening their record to 25-31 and staying in 13th place in the Western Conference, their next game will be next Saturday when they visit the champion Golden State Warriors.
