The NFL Honors held in Phoenix, Arizona kicked off with the Super Bowl LVII weekend and during the ceremony that awards the best of the 2022 NFL season the first two awards have been handed out and they are really important as they are the Offensive and Defensive of the Year. The winners were the spectacular receiver of the Minnesota Vikings, Justin Jefferson and the defensive wing of the San Francisco 49ers, Nick Bosa.
Justin Jefferson’s season
Jefferson’s season, his third in the NFL, has cemented quarterback Kirk Cousins‘ weapon of choice as an NFL superstar and the most important player for the NFC North champions.
In 2022, Jefferson broke the Vikings franchise mark for receiving yards (1,809) held by Randy Moss, a total that is the sixth-highest in league-wide history, plus he caught 128 passes, the seventh-highest total in NFL history.
Jefferson ranked first with 192 points, ahead of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes (75 points), Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts (52 points) and Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was also a finalist.
Nick Bosa’s season
Bosa came within one win of returning to the Super Bowl and was the best player on a 49ers defense that was the key to the NFC West champions’ big run. The brother of Chargers player Joey Bosa was the NFL’s sack leader with 18.5.
The Ohio State graduate won the voting with 237 points, beating Dallas Cowboys outside linebacker Micah Parsons (101 points) and Kansas City Chiefs defensive tackle Chris Jones (56 points), who were also finalists.
