Leeds United make spectacular swoop to sign Weston McKennie

Leeds United, who are looking to climb up the Premier League table, are expected to sign American midfielder Weston McKennie to bolster their midfield.

The club coached by American manager Jesse Marsch will conclude the signing of McKennie from Italian Serie A side Juventus imminently, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Leeds would pay 1.2 million euros for the loan fee and the deal includes a 33m euro purchase option.

According to Romano, McKennie met with Leeds United last Wednesday and an agreement was reached, but the club were still negotiating with Juventus.

McKennie will now travel to England over the weekend to undergo medical tests and sign the contract.

McKennie has played in Germany, Italy and now England

McKennie has played for Juventus since September 2020, when he arrived on loan from German side Schalke 04. His deal with the Italian giants became permanent in 2021.

With Juventus, McKennie has competed in some of the world’s top tournaments, including the Champions League.

The midfielder made 20 appearances for the Bianconeri this season, scoring three goals and providing one assist.

He was also part of the United States team that reached the round of 16 at the Qatar 2022 World Cup.

The FC Dallas academy product will join fellow American internationals Brenden Aaronson and Tyler Adams at Leeds.

The English club are currently 15th in the Premier League standings with 18 points from 19 games played.
