Lisa Marie Presley and the nightmare of seeing her father dead hours after their last goodnight kiss

Lisa Marie Presley, who today was buried next to her father, the King of Rock, Elvis Presley, could never forget the day she found her father dead just hours after he kissed her goodnight one last time on August 16, 1977.

The week before, Lisa Marie passed away after suffering a cardiac arrest at the age of 54, and Elvis‘ only daughter was buried at Graceland, next to her father, as well as her grandparents and son Benjamin.

What was Lisa Marie’s last memory of her father?

Before she died, Lisa Marie revealed what was her last memory of discovering Elvis‘ lifeless body in the bathroom of his famous Memphis home on that fateful August 16, 1977.

“I don’t like to talk about it,” Lisa Marie confessed years before her death in remarks recalled by

“It was 4 a.m. I was supposed to be asleep, actually. He found me.

Lisa Marie was in her room with her mother, Priscilla Presley, when Elvis arrived with them a couple of minutes later and kissed her goodnight.

“That was the last time I saw him alive,” she recalled.

Later, when she went to see her father, Lisa Marie came upon Elvis‘ body, attended to by her friend Ginger Alden. Elvis lay face down on the red carpet next to the toilet in his bathroom.

Terrified, she ran to the phone and called his ex-girlfriend Linda Thompson, who was not at Graceland at the time.

“My daddy’s dead!” Thompson recalled the breathless girl screaming into the phone.

“He’s drowned in the carpet!”

Despite the shock, the nine-year-old found comfort in her father’s lifeless body.

“His body was in the house for three days and there was something strangely comforting about that, which made it not necessarily real to me,” Lisa Marie said.

The King’s transformation in his daughter’s eyes

Lisa Marie also recalled her anguish and fear as she watched the father, she adored transform from the handsome King of Rock ‘n’ Roll into a train wreck.

As a child, she wasn’t fully aware that her 42-year-old father, whom she adored so much, was falling apart.

“I didn’t know then what was going on. I wish I had known. I had no idea what was really going on,” she added.

At the time, Elvis‘ weight skyrocketed due to wild binges on fried fatty foods and sugary treats. He was also addicted to prescription pills.

His adored little girl finally noticed her beloved father’s bulging abdomen, and the sight of his 350-pound body sent shivers down her spine.

“I remember seeing his stomach for the first time and being very worried about it,” she admitted.

Lisa Marie begged her father “not to die” in heartbreaking poems she scrawled in her diary and began checking on him constantly to see if he was OK.

Her alarm grew as he became weak and helpless.

She also realized that “he was not happy”. Then came the trauma of finding him dead.
