During production of the Netflix film called ‘Rust‘ back in October 2021, actor Alec Baldwin was handling a prop gun and shot a live round directly at the film’s director of photography. Halyna Hutchins passed away almost instantly from that gun wound, the actor has been trying to defend his actions by stating the whole event was an accident. On Thursday, Santa Fe County District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb annpunced Baldwin and armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed will both be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter. There were no charges filed related to the shooting of ‘Rust‘ director Joel Souza, who also suffered injuries from the incident.
These charges are set to be filed before the end of the month. A tragedy that took place during the month of October, 2021 and it finally reaches the end of legal procedures. Assistant director David Halls also signed a plea agreement for the negligent use of a deadly fire arm. In a press release, Carmack Altwies said this in a statement: “After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew. On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”

In the American law system, any charge of involuntary manslaughter carries a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison and a $5,000 fine under New Mexico law.
