The comment Tom Cruise made to get Emily Blunt to stop crying on set

In the making of any movie, hours and hours are spent on set and there are often several funny anecdotes to come out of shoots.

One that emerged recently involved Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt, who starred together in the 2014 science fiction action film ‘Edge of Tomorrow’.

In the sci-fi movie, Cruise and Blunt‘s characters fight against aliens who come to Earth to wipe out humanity and they both had to wear metal suits during filming, which caused some stress because of how heavy they were, weighting in at 85 pounds.

Tom Cruise’s comment to Emily Blunt on the ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ set

In December, speaking on the ‘Smartless’ podcast, Emily Blunt spoke about that film shoot and about the suit.

“It was so heavy, and the first time I put it on I just started to cry in front of Tom and he didn’t know what to do,” she recalled.

“He just stared at me and I was like ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot’ and just started to cry.

“I said ‘I’m just feeling a bit panicky about the whole shoot’.

“He just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he goes ‘Come on, stop being such a pu**y, OK?’”

Emily Blunt then clarified the comment about Tom Cruise

After that podcast appearance, some media outlets spun that comment as if Cruise had been nasty to his co-star, so Blunt wanted to clear up the confusion and insist that he made the “pu**y” comment in a light-hearted way.

“It’s ludicrous that it’s being spun as something that offended me, as it didn’t,” she told E! News.

“I shared the story as light-heartedly, as it was meant by Tom.

“I absolutely adore Tom, he’s a dear friend and he was a total gem to me.

“It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which it did in a big way. And it’s still something we laugh about to this day.”
