Midway through the 2023 January transfer window, Barcelona and Inter are discussing a possible player swap that would see Memphis Depay move to the Italian club and Marcelo Brozovic land at the Spotify Camp Nou.
Other possible names have been mentioned too, such as Franck Kessie or Joaquin Correa, but the reality is that the only swap being seriously considered is the one involving the Dutchman and the Croatian.
Xavi has made it clear to the Barcelona board that he doesn’t need Correa for his squad, but he would, on the other hand, be willing to take Brozovic.
Memphis to Atletico Madrid is still possible
These negotiations between Barcelona and Inter are taking place at the same time as the Catalan club discuss the possible move of Memphis to Atletico Madrid.
The capital city side are another candidate to take the Dutch forward for the rest of the season, as he isn’t playing much in Xavi‘s new-look Barcelona.
With this in mind, Memphis is willing to leave the Blaugrana this window, something he wasn’t willing to do last summer.
Atletico are keen because they have lost Matheus Cunha and Joao Felix to the Premier League this window, but Barcelona won’t gift Memphis away.
The good news for Barcelona is that they can play Inter and Atletico off each other to see who makes the best offer.
Both clubs want the 28-year-old for different reasons, and it does seem that he’ll finally move on from the Blaugrana after not featuring for a single minute in their recent Spanish Super Cup triumph.
