Golden Globes return to TV slammed as ‘woke’ and ‘boring’

After a year of not being on television due to the scandal they experienced in 2012, the Golden Globes returned to NBC on Tuesday night with a ceremony in which most of Hollywood’s biggest stars were present, but which left many things to be desired for the audience that tuned in.

The changes in the ceremony were felt from the first minutes, when the host, Jerrod Carmichael, commented in the traditional opening monologue about why he had been chosen as host: “I’m here because I’m black.”

Carmichael’s hosting was controversial

“This show, the Golden Globes, didn’t air last year because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which I’m not going to say was a racist organization, but it didn’t have a single black member until George Floyd died,” Carmichael explained in his opening. “So do with that information what you will.”

In addition to forced jokes, Jerrod made rather inappropriate comments, such as mentioning the Beverly Hilton Hotel, which is where the show took place, as “the hotel that killed Whitney Houston.”

Carmichael mocked Tom Cruise and Scientology, honoree Eddie Murphy mocked Will Smith’s slapping at the Oscars and Tracy Morgan joked that Murphy’s “game is weak” and criticized him for having 10 children.

Fans tear them apart on social media

“Congrats to the boring awards woke #GoldenGlobes,” tweeted one viewer.

“Man, the @goldenglobes hit rock bottom right out of the gate. is Hollyweird capable of doing anything without racism/wokeism?” wrote one user.

“Give one 10 minutes to preach and then 20 seconds to others! Want more time to talk about woke s – – – t.”

“Was there a single joke in that opening monologue or did he just pepper it with random buzzwords? Horrible, get off the stage,” someone wrote.

“Okay, this show should have been taken off the air. It’s so boring…,” one person wrote.

“The @goldenglobes are the most boring awards I’ve ever seen in my life,” tweeted another.

“This is boring as hell. It looked like a dress rehearsal that no one was paying attention to,” tweeted one person.

“I was really looking forward to watching the @goldenglobes tonight. Sadly, this host and boring acceptance speeches, it’s a snoozefest,” said one disappointed viewer.
