Ansu Fati has yet to rediscover his form despite enjoying more playing time after the 2022 World Cup break.
The Spain international was in the Barcelona starting XI for the games against Espanyol and Atletico Madrid, also featuring in the Copa del Rey clash against Intercity off the bench.
At the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano, he was in charge of filling in for the suspended Robert Lewandowski, but he failed to impress with his performance.
Xavi Hernandez opted for Fati to cover for the Poland international, but the youngster didn’t live up to expectations and didn’t grab the opportunity he was given.
He registered two shots off target and attempted just 21 passes in 57 minutes, with 17 of them being successful.
In the Catalan derby, Fati started on the left flank and played for 62 minutes, but he didn’t stand out. His figures were similar to the ones he recorded in Madrid, as he managed two shots off target and 20/23 successful passes.
Meanwhile, in the Copa del Rey duel against Intercity, Fati did help his team clinch qualification to the next round by netting the winner in extra time.
Two tough years for Ansu Fati
Fati has experienced a real nightmare since 2020. This season he has fully recovered from injuries and he is trying to bounce back, but he is struggling to deliver.
Xavi has asked fans to be patient with the Barcelona academy product and he has been gradually increasing Fati‘s playing time over the last few games.
In 2020/21, Fati played just 10 games in all competitions, last season he featured in 15 matches and this year he has played 23 games and scored four goals.
Before picking up his first injury, he participated in 33 games and scored eight goals in the 2018/19 season.
