Gladiator 2 has a new leading man to take over from Russell Crowe

Gladiator 2‘ is completing the final stages of production before filming begins.

Everything points to the filming of the sequel to ‘Gladiator‘ being ready in March 2023, but the name of the film’s leading man has yet to be decided.

According to a specialised film website, though, the film has already found its main character.

Ridley Scott, the film’s director, hit the mark in 2000 with ‘Gladiator’.

The film made 503 million dollars and ‘Gladiator 2’ will be his next big project, after ‘Napoleon’, which will star Joaquin Phoenix.

The protagonist of ‘Gladiator 2’ has the difficult task of picking up the baton from Russell Crowe, but the website THR has announced that the movie is in talks with an actor who could take on that difficult role.

Paul Mescal, the man that will star in ‘Gladiator 2’

The chosen one is Paul Mescal and negotiations are at an advanced stage. ‘Gladiator 2′ will follow the story of Lucius, Lucila’s son and Commodus’ nephew.

The source does not confirm with certainty that Mescal has got the role, but there would be no problem if talks continue as they are.

Mescal is best known for starring three years ago in the series ‘Normal People’, a fictionalisation of the novel by Sally Rooney.

Other well-known works by Mescal include ‘The Dark Daughter’; ‘God’s Creature’ and ‘Aftersun’.

‘Gladiator’ won five Oscars: Best Picture, Best Actor for Russell Crowe, Best Costume Design, Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.
