“Hakuna Matata”: Seahawks thank Lions for getting them into playoffs

The Seattle Seahawks (9-8) clinched the playoffs in the most dramatic fashion possible. First, with an OT win against a strong Rams team (16-19) which left the Lions mathematically out of contention for the playoffs.

The Sunday Night Football game then became one in which only the Packers controlled their destiny. A win, and Green Bay would clinch the last NFC Wild Card spot. A loss, and it would go to the Seahawks.

Lions head coach Dan Campbell was asked about playing the Packers knowing they were no longer playing for a place in the playoffs, to which he replied: “Our motivation is leaving them (Green Bay) out”. And it proved to be true, as the Lions stunned the ‘Pack’ 20-16.

A message of thanks from the Seahawks

“Hakuna Matata @Lions”, Seattle’s social media team wrote in a short message filled with sentiment. In the Lion King movie, Timon & Pumbaa explain that Hakuna Mata means “no worries for the rest of your days”. And now the Seahawks will indeed have no worries, until Saturday… when they face the 49ers (4:30 ET, FOX).
