Wolves: Hugo Bueno was disappointing today

Wolverhampton Wanderers fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Manchester United this afternoon as manager Julen Lopetegui couldn’t repeat the heroics from their Boxing Day win over Everton.

Wolves held out until the 76th minute when a goal from Marcus Rashford – who was introduced at halftime after he dropped to the bench before the match – gave United all three points and it is a familiar story for the Old Gold.

They failed to score yet again, with the club languishing in the relegation places having netted just ten league goals all season. They have improved under Lopetegui, no doubt about it, but they still lack that cutting edge that is required to score regularly at this level.

Diego Costa was subbed at half-time following a first-half performance that included just 16 touches, eight passes, and one shot on target, however, left-back Hugo Bueno managed to put in a performance that was the worst of the bunch.

The youngster played for 73 minutes and received a Sofascore rating of 6.4/10, which was the worst out of the whole Wolves starting XI.

The 20-year-old failed to make one tackle, clearance, or interception while winning a grand total of zero duels he contested throughout the encounter.

Do you think Wolves will stay up this season?

Bueno also took just 41 touches during his time on the pitch and made a grand total of 22 passes all while losing possession ten times and this will be a display that he will look to forget about in a hurry.

It’s safe to say that Rayan Ait-Nouri might be preferred in the next match as the manager goes looking for his second league win, but he can take a few positives from this afternoon’s performance overall.

Wolves managed ten shots in total while not being overly dominated possession-wise, as Man United had a 54% share, and the more games the club play under the 56-year-old, the better they will become as a unit.

An away tie against Aston Villa awaits on Wednesday evening and this is a match where securing all three points should be the main objective, especially if the club wants to alleviate any relegation fears.
