The end of the suspense for Josep Guardiola. Eager to continue the adventure on the bench of Manchester City, the Spanish coach returns as planned. As his contract ended next June, the 51-year-old coach signed a new lease for two additional years, until June 2025. In office since the summer of 2016, the former FC Barcelona manager has since led 374 times in all competitions the Citizens, for an impressive record of 271 victories (72.4% success).

Runner-up to Arsenal in the Premier League

Under his command, Manchester City notably won four English league titles (2018, 2019, 2021, 2022) and reached the Champions League final in 2021, lost to Chelsea (0-1) on a goal from Kai Havertz. “Pep” is still waiting to win the C1 with the team based at the Etihad Stadium, opposed in the round of 16 to the Germans of RB Leipzig. In the Premier League, Erling Haaland’s partners are in second place in the standings five behind Arsenal.

“I can’t be in a better place”

Josep Guardiola gave his first impressions, after signing, on the club’s official website. “I am so happy to stay at Manchester City for another two years. I can’t thank everyone at the club enough for trusting me. I am happy and comfortable here. I have everything I need to do my job as well as possible. I know the next chapter of this club will be amazing for the next decade. It happened in the last ten years, and it will happen in the next ten years because this club is so stable. From day one, I felt something special here. I can’t be in a better place. I still feel like we can do more together and that’s why I want to stay and keep fighting for trophies.”
