This Tuesday, Manchester United announced in a press release that it had reached an agreement with Cristiano Ronaldo for the breach of the latter’s contract, “with immediate effect”. A small bomb in the world, which makes the 37-year-old player an element now without a contract.
It was in the air and it’s now official: Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer a Manchester United player. The English club promised sanctions against the striker after his controversial interview, and it was a termination that happened on Tuesday. On Monday, the Portuguese had indicated that he did not regret the timing of this shock interview, which therefore precipitated his departure from the English club.
Returning in the summer of 2021 to the club that revealed him to the world, Cristiano Ronaldo saw his status deteriorate this season, after a less effective first year than expected (24 goals in 39 games).
Ronaldo “love Manchester United” but looking for “a new challenge”
For his part, the 37-year-old Portuguese, who will soon play his first match at the 2022 World Cup (Thursday, against Ghana), reacted via a press release to his separation from Manchester United, evoking his ambitions: “Following conversations with Manchester United, we have mutually agreed to end our contract early. I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never change. However, it seems like the time has come for me to look for a new challenge. I wish the team every success for the rest of the season and for the future.”
According to the latest information, Cristiano Ronaldo is not expected to return to his former club between 2009 and 2018, Real Madrid. The Spanish club would indeed have failed the 37-year-old striker, who has performed poorly this season (3 goals, 2 assists) but above all little used (21 games, 11 starts) by his coach, Erik ten Hag. Cristiano Ronaldo should not go to AS Roma either, while the Italian club’s sporting director, Tiago Pinto, has indicated that he has not tried to recruit him.
That said, the situation could change, as Cristiano Ronaldo is now a free agent on the market.
