Boxing: Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk still have a chance to unify the four heavyweight belts

Promoter Eddie Hearn assures that the fight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk can be used to unify the four heavyweight belts, despite recent requests by the IBF.

“If I’m honest, under IBF rules they shouldn’t let the Usyk-Fury fight happen,” Hearn commented during an interview with iFL TV. “But at the end of the day it’s boxing, it’s a big fight and we’ve seen how sometimes the rules are flexible in fights like that. It’s the fight that’s next in first place at heavyweight.”

Asked to look for Hrgovic-Usyk fight

Hearn, who is Filip Hrgovic’s agent, was ordered by the IBF to seek the fight against Oleksandr Usyk. If he does not accept it, the latter would have to leave the belt vacant and so Hrgovic could contest it against another opponent.

“We received the mail from the IBF asking us to start negotiations between Hrgovic and Usyk,” Hearn said. “With them there is a regulation that if you don’t start negotiations, you go straight to an auction and we wanted to make that request.”

Against Fury they can unify all four championships

Tyson Fury will step into the ring on Dec. 3 for a title defense against Derek Chisora. Hearn said he doesn’t care if they take the championship away from Usyk to fulfill Hrgovic’s dream.

“I don’t represent Fury, I don’t represent Usyk, I worked with Hrgovic. We have a commitment to him. For us it’s about giving him what he wants which is a chance to fight for the world championship“.

But he insisted that if there is a fight between Fury and Usyk, the four belts of the highest category can be unified.
