Until the day Lionel Messi retires, it seems there will always be rumors linking him with a return to Barcelona.
Nobody ever imagined seeing the Argentine leave the Blaugrana, given the time he spent there, until he actually moved to France. Messi is currently under contract with Paris Saint-German until June 30, 2023, and it’s then that he’ll have to make a decision on whether he wants to renew his contract or take his career in a new direction.
In a conversation with his former national team teammate Ezequiel Lavezzi, Messi gave several hints on what the future may hold for him. He knows that the doors are more than open at both the Camp Nou and the Parc des Princes, as the French side will do everything they can to renew his deal.
“It was hard to leave Barcelona, we had spent all our lives in the same place. I had never moved and I didn’t know what it was like to leave,” said Messi. “I didn’t expect this, it happened very quickly and I had to leave Barcelona overnight.
“We found ourselves in a new environment. We had our life in Barcelona, our friends, our habits, and we were in a different place, with another language, another type of football, another climate. It was difficult, but, today, I enjoy everything, including the football.”
However when it comes to a possible return to Barcelona, it seems Messi is more interested in staying put in France.
“I like Paris much more, I explore the city and I find it magnificent,” said Messi. “During my first year there was a big change, things happened very suddenly. It wasn’t my goal to leave Barcelona and everything was abrupt.
“After this long period and some difficult moments, I am happy to live where I live and my family and I are enjoying Paris.”
Messi ready for the World Cup
The striker is preparing for the World Cup, as he looks to cap off an excellent calendar year for Argentina. In 2012, he scored 12 goals with the Albiceleste, and he is currently just one goal shy of equaling that tally.
As if that weren’t enough, this season we have once again seen the best Messi, or one that is similar to the one who played for Barcelona. He isn’t just scoring, he’s also a distributor who is helping his teammates play better and helping the team win games.
During the most recent Argentina training session, the former Barcelona player started his exercises late, which certainly scared fans back home. Messi then trained separately from the group, but didn’t have any issues. MARCA reports that the player is fine and that it was just a scare.
