World Cup 2022: Maddison only absentee for England ahead of World Cup opener

The England football team continued their preparations on Friday for their FIFA World Cup opener against Iran on Monday.

Every player took part in the session apart from Leicester City’s James Maddison who continued to train separately from the team to manage workload as he recovers from a knee injury.

It was the second successive day that Maddison joined the team huddle at the Al Wakrah Sports Complex stadium, south of Doha, before leaving the group session to train alone.

After opening the tournament against Iran at the Khalifa International Stadium the Three Lions then face the USA and Wales in Group B.
