Who is Joelle Rich? Johnny Depp’s new lawyer girlfriend present during the Amber Heard trial

Johnny Depp lost his UK defamation case against The Sun in 2020 but might have taken one win from it, as he’s now dating the attorney that represented him in the High Court – Joelle Rich.

Depp fans previously linked him to Camille Vasquez, his lawyer in the successful Virginia defamation case against Amber Heard, where Rich wasn’t on the team.

But after Rich flew to America to support her now-partner in the trial, Depp and Rich have been spotted out together, although a source told People magazine that the pair aren’t serious.

Who is Joelle Rich?

Rich went to an independent school in North London before graduating from the University of Birmingham and studying at BPP Law School to specialise in Media and Entertainment, Intellectual Property and Commercial and Private Acquisitions.

She’s still based in the UK, as she’s a partner at the international law firm Schillings, and her LinkedIn boasts she has ‘expertise in libel, privacy and copyright disputes’ and ‘works to defend reputations against false and defamatory allegations in print, online and on social media.’

She’s still married to another man, though that’s not something that would’ve stopped Depp‘s best-loved character Jack Sparrow.

She’s had two children with her estranged husband, something she has in common with Depp who shares son Jack and daughter Lily-Rose with his ex Vanessa Paradis.

It’s thought Rich first crossed paths with Depp when defending him in his 2020 UK case.

His ex-wife Heard penned an article for the Sun where she called Depp a ‘wife-beater’, and the actor responded by suing the paper for libel.

That case was shot down as the High Court agreed with the paper that the claims were ‘substantially true’ and a March 2021 attempt by Depp to overturn the ruling also failed.

But Depp isn’t the first big-name client Rich has represented, Meghan Markle called on her firm in 2021 for her successful privacy battle with the publisher of the Mail on Sunday, after the newspaper printed a letter between Markle and her father.
