Leeds: Marsch handed potential boost

Leeds United have been handed a potentially huge boost ahead of their next Premier League clash against Aston Villa on October 2.

What’s the latest?

According to a report by Leeds Live, Steven Gerrard’s side have been dealt a potentially significant blow ahead of their upcoming trip to Elland Road, as midfielder Boubacar Kamara was forced off in the first half of Villa’s 1-0 win over Southampton on Friday night after picking up a knee injury.

Subsequently, Foot Mercato journalist Sebastien Denis revealed on Twitter that the 22-year-old has now withdrawn from Didier Deschamps’ France squad for Les Bleus’ UEFA Nations League fixtures against Austria and Denmark later this month, which suggests that the youngster’s knock is a serious one.

Great news for Marsch

It is never pleasant to see a footballer sustain a serious injury – particularly one as young and exciting as Kamara – but considering how important a part of Gerrard’s side the midfielder has become following his move from Marseille this summer, the 22-year-old’s potential unavailability for the Leeds clash is undoubtedly great news for Whites manager Jesse Marsch.

Indeed, the £22.5m-rated talent has started all seven of Villa’s Premier League matches so far this season, during which the Frenchman has highly impressed. He has made 42 passes (at a success rate of 84%) and 3.3 tackles (joint eighth-most in the league) and won six duels (at a success rate of 51%) per game.

These returns have seen the £150k-per-week midfielder average an admirable SofaScore match rating of 6.86, ranking him as Gerrard’s ninth-best performer in the top flight. That is a rather impressive feat considering how recently the youngster moved to Villa Park.

As such, it is clear to see that Kamara’s likely absence from Villa’s trip to Leeds will come as a huge boost to Marsch. Without the France international marshalling the visitors’ midfield, the Whites’ chances of breaking through Gerrard’s side and subsequently securing all three points at Elland Road are sure to increase dramatically.
