Did LeBron James request Dennis Schroder be brought back to the LA Lakers?

Dennis Schroder’s return to the Los Angeles Lakers was announced at a time when all was quiet, as the point guard signed as a free agent for 2.6 million dollars.

It will be Schroder‘s second stint with the franchise, after leaving the Lakers in 2021.

LeBron James: The man behind the Schroder trade?

A few months ago, Schroder and LeBron James exchanged messages on Instagram, where the German player jokingly asked him “might gotta run it back?”

Once Schroder‘s return was leaked, James was one of the first to welcome him to the team and did not hide his happiness to have him as a teammate once again.

In the season they played together, the Lakers weren’t able to win a championship, but the on-court connection between the pair was clear.

Now, they hope that chemistry will help the team get out of the hole they found themselves in last season, where they finished last in their division and far from fighting for a playoff spot.

Will Schroder be welcomed in Los Angeles?

Schroder left the Lakers amid controversy the first time around. The team offered him an 80m dollar contract extension, which he turned down.

Then he surprised the NBA by making a move to the Boston Celtics, the Lakers‘ historic rivals.

What made the deal more interesting was that he agreed to sign with Boston for a much lower salary than what the Lakers were offering. He arrived at the TD Garden for a mere 5.9m dollars.

The Brunswick native comes to the Lakers from the Houston Rockets, where he played just 15 games.

He is 29 years old, so he has a good part of his career ahead of him and will hope to recapture the form he showed in his first spell in Los Angeles.
