Transfer – OM: This is why McCourt is angry

Despite the good start to the championship, all is not perfect at OM. Igor Tudor’s men have lost their first two Champions League games and Pablo Longoria has to deal with a disgruntled owner. Frank McCourt expected more sales this summer and quickly made it known that he would not invest. The Marseille president managed to find a way out for unwanted players, but often in the form of loans, which did not bail out the club’s coffers.

Pablo Longoria has been busy this summer. The president of theOM registered no less than 12 new recruits: Samuel Gigot, Isaac Toure, Jonathan Clauss, Luis Suarez, Chancel Mbemba, Ruben Blanco, Nuno Tavares, Jordan Veretout, Alexis Sanchez, Eric Bailly, Issa Kabore and Amine Harit. But it is also in the direction of departures that Pablo Longoria was expected, in particular by Frank McCourt. The owner of the club let him know that he did not intend to put his hand in his pocket this summer and that he hoped for several sales in order to obtain cash.

€13.5M recovered thanks to sales

Only problem, the Marseillais had a lot of trouble finding a base for the players on whom Igor Tudor didn’t count. Only three starts brought in some money: Duje Caleta-Carsold for 8M€ at Southampton, Luan Peresgone to Fenerbahce against 4M€ and Lucas Perrinfor who Strasbourg exercised the purchase option set at €1.5 million. A total of €13.5 million was therefore recovered by Pablo Longoriawhile players like Luis Henrique (Botafogo) Where Arkadiusz Milik (Juventus) were lent with an option to buy. L’OM has long hoped to achieve a good sale with Bamba Dieng. The Senegalese international was due to leaveOGC Nice against 12M€, but his transfer was finally aborted.

€46.9m spent

At the same time, theOM spent around €46.9m on the transfer market, according to figures from Maxifoot. The Marseillais have exercised the purchase options of Matteo Guendouzi and Cengiz Under and also spent €7.5M and €11M to secure the services of Jonathan Clauss and Jordan Veretout. We can even add to this the arrival of Roggerio Nyakossi coming from Servette FC. The young 18-year-old central defender is currently playing with the reserves, but theOM spent 2M€ to recruit him. The Marseillais also let go of 7M€ to secure the services of Isaak Touré from Haven.

A situation that annoys McCourt

An annoying balance sheet Frank McCourtas indicated The Team this Friday morning. The club owner would be particularly irritated by the few sales made during the last summer transfer window, a feeling shared by his entourage. Pablo Longoria therefore knows what to do during the next transfer windows. Not sure that the amicable contract termination of Cedric Bakambu does not cheer up Frank McCourteven if this operation will make it possible to reduce the payroll of the workforce.
