Luka Doncic gets fouled out and Slovenia fails in their attempt to repeat as EuroBasket champions

In a shocking result, Luka Doncic and the powerful Slovenian national team have been eliminated from EuroBasket in the quarterfinal round after being defeated by Poland with a 90-87 scoreboard.

Luka Doncic was fouled out in the final minutes of the fourth quarter in a game where Poland had a lead of as much as 20 points during the first half, but later in the third quarter everything appeared to have settled back to normal when Slovenia came out of the locker room on a roll and quickly erased the deficit on the scoreboard and even took the lead.

Luka Doncic couldn’t play the final minutes of the game

EuroBasket is a FIBA sanctioned tournament, therefore their rules apply and some differ a bit from the NBA’s, for instance in FIBA a player gets fouled out with only five fouls instead of six.

This was the case for Luka Doncic during Slovenia’s loss in their quarterfinals game against Poland, where he got called for his fifth foul with 2:37 left on the clock.

Before that, Doncic wasn’t having his greatest game, as the stat line shows with the NBA superstar missing three of the four free throws he took, while shooting for just 33% from field goal range and scoring only 14 of his team’s points in the night.

On Poland’s side of the court, Mateusz Ponitka had a sensational game and helped his team take the win by posting a triple-double, recording 26 points, 16 rebounds and 10 assists.

EuroBasket’s quarterfinals proved to be tricky for these NBA superstars

Nikola Jokic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic were the leaders of three of the favorite teams to take home the crown at EuroBasket and the three of them got eliminated in the quarterfinals round of the tournament, in what many consider a major surprise.
