The WSL fixture between Chelsea and Tottenham scheduled for Friday 7 January has been postponed due a number of Covid-19 cases in the Blues camp.
A decision was agreed between both sides and the FA on Wednesday evening after Chelsea players returned several positive tests, while a strung of injuries already had Emma Hayes’ side down to the bare bones.
Chelsea have confirmed that the players who have returned positive tests are now self isolating.
The decision means that Chelsea will have to wait another week to get their faltering title challenge back on track. Hayes’ side have fallen to second place in the WSL after a disappointing December, sitting four points behind Arsenal.
Their meeting with West Ham shortly before the annual winter break was one of several WSL games called off due to a spike in Covid-19 cases. Chelsea’s next game is now set to be a trip to Everton on Sunday 16 January.
Spurs, meanwhile, sit only a point behind Chelsea in the table and are having a great season by their standards. Rehanne Skinner’s side have lost just two WSL games so far this term and are pushing for a Champions League finish for the first time.
