The last time Kyrie Irving played for the Brooklyn Nets was during last season’s NBA Playoffs. After that, a storm of unfortunate events happened that got him completely ostracized from what he loves doing the most: playing basketball. Simply by looking at his reasoning behind the decisions he made, one can easily understand he was just being supportive to a cause. But Kyrie Irving also made a massive statement by becoming one of the few athletes who spoke against vaccine mandates in America. Even if his actions were potentially harmful for society, he still decided to stand for what he believes. But fortune smiled upon Kyrie by the end of 2021 as the global pandemic started raging more than ever before.
With the NBA suffering major outbreaks on every single one of their teams, the Brooklyn Nets were no different. Inside the team, everybody has been supportive of Kyrie‘s decisions and that good relationship helped build the bridge that eventually got him to return. Amid the ban he has in the New York area, Irving was allowed to return to play due to the team’s several players on the protocol/COVID list. But he would only play in the away games for Brooklyn. That’s how we got to tonight in Indiana against the Pacers. For the first time this season, the Nets had their All-Star big three on the court.
How did Kyrie do on his return?
For half a season without any activity, Kyrie Irving returned with a solid 22-point performance tonight. He obviously needs to get his pacing back but watching him shooting sure is a sight for sore eyes, especially for Nets fans. Everybody celebrates that Kyrie Irving will be available to play with the team during the away games. Although, the big man of the evening was Kevin Durant once again with a wild 39 points. But Kyrie was second with his 22 points scored. It was a great night for Brooklyn as they get to a 24-12 record after tonight’s win.
