NASCAR’s Kyle Busch escapes shooting at Mall of America in Minnesota with his family

Kyle Busch, a two-time NASCAR Series Cup Series champion, managed to get to safety with his family from the Mall of America in suburban Minneapolis after someone fired shots in the vicinity of the mall.

Bloomington police, who said no one was injured in the shooting, and two suspects are being sought after securing the scene shortly before 6 p.m. local time Thursday.

Police Chief Booker T. Hodges said two groups got into an altercation inside a Nike store, one group left, but two individuals from that group returned and one of them fired three shots into the store where customers were shopping.

Busch’s wife, Samantha, posted videos on her Instagram story, showing her son winning a youth racing event on Wednesday and riding roller coasters with her husband on Thursday, before providing an update that they were OK after the shooting.

“If you’re watching the news about the @mallofamerica, we got out and are safe,” she posted. “My prayers that others inside are as well.”

Busch, the 2015 and 2019 champion and winner of 60 Cup races in his career, is scheduled to race Sunday in the No. 18 Toyota at Michigan International Raceway.
