Isco and Marcelo: Free agents but no news

Real Madrid decided against renewing the contracts of Marcelo and Isco, both of whom left the club this summer.

With just 10 days to go until the LaLiga Santander season kicks off, neither of the two players have managed to find a new team.

Despite both being free and therefore able to negotiate with any club that would not be obliged to pay any transfer fee, their futures remain uncertain.

Neither Isco nor Marcelo are contemplating retiring, with the latter having made it clear publicly.

Isco’s situation

Despite the fact that he is a player that Julen Lopetegui is fond of, Sevilla do not seem willing to acquire his services for the time being.

The man who is in charge of finding him a new club is his agent, Jorge Mendes. They approached Real Betis, as their boss Manuel Pellegrini had coached Isco at Malaga, but there’s been no news since.

Isco was also offered to Roma, but Mendes‘ issue is that he is in search of a club which will not force him to give up his high salary, which is around 10 million euros.

Aged 30, Isco wants his new team to play in European competitions.

Last year, he played 17 games for Real Madrid, scoring two goals. His value has dropped to 7.5m euros, when just four years ago he was worth 80m euros.

Marcelo’s situation

Marcelo left Real Madrid as the player with the most titles in the club’s history (25). Aged 34, the Brazilian left-back has made it clear that he feels strong enough to continue, but there is no team willing to meet his salary demands for the time being.

There’s been talk about a potential move to his friend Ronaldo Nazario‘s Real Valladolid and according to L’Equipe, Lyon considered moving for Marcelo but eventually ruled it out.

AC Milan‘s name also came up, with Marcelo considering hanging up his boots at Fluminense. Meanwhile, Fenerbahce were also reportedly interested in signing him.
