West Ham United will face either Danish side Viborg or Faroese outfit B36 Torshavn in the play-off round of the Europa Conference League.
Viborg finished seventh in last year’s Superliga – their first season back in the Danish top flight – while B36 Torshavn won the 2021 Faroe Islands Cup to secure qualification.
The first leg will be played at London Stadium on 18 August, with the return fixture coming a week later. The winner will head into the 32-team group stage.
West Ham qualified for the Conference League after finishing seventh in the Premier League, being pipped to a Europa League spot by Manchester United on the final day of the season.
However, should West Ham reach the group stage, it will be the first time in 56 years that they will have competed in Europe in back-to-back seasons.
David Moyes’ side embarked on a memorable run to last year’s Europa League semi-finals, beating Sevilla and Lyon on the way but falling to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Other major sides competing in the play-off round of this season’s Conference League include, Fiorentina, Koln, Nice and Villarreal.
The final will take place in Prague, with West Ham fans likely dreaming of Tomas Soucek hoisting the trophy on home soil.
