Boxing: Fury and Wilder make predictions for Usyk vs Joshua rematch

Anthony Joshua will look to regain the three world heavyweight titles he lost in the fight against Oleksandr Usyk at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last September.

The two men will face each other again on August 20, in a rematch that will take place at the Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, current World Boxing Council (WBC) champion, Tyson Fury, has offered his prediction about the winner of the upcoming bout.

“I just think Usyk is too good of a boxer for AJ and I don’t think AJ’s got the ability to pressurise him for 12 rounds, drag him into a dog fight and knock him out,” Fury told journalist Gareth A Davies.

“You have to be an elite special human being for that and I don’t think Joshua possesses that will to win to do that.

“He’s too easily happy to come second position. If you’re willingly settling for second, say no more.

“In heavyweight boxing, it only takes one punch. It wasn’t a complete landslide last time, Usyk had a lot of marks on his face, he was cut up.

“He’s not hard to hit, Usyk, he’s right there in front of you. So Joshua can obviously land a big punch, but I just think Usyk’s too cute for him. Too smart, too quick, and a southpaw.”

For this fight, Joshua will no longer have trainer Robert McCracken in his corner, with Robert Garcia and Angel Fernandez joining his coaching staff.

“I think that [new trainer] Robert Garcia trying to train him to be on the front foot or whatever and be aggressive will only enable Usyk to land more often,” added Fury.

“I just don’t see it, but then again, what do I know? Nothing about boxing. I’m the heavyweight champion of the world, undefeated all of that stuff.”

Wilder picks sides

Meanwhile, Deontay Wilder didn’t hesitate to pick sides ahead of what is considered as one of the most anticipated fights this year.

“I’m going with Usyk here man,” Wilder told ESNews.

“I’m going with Usyk. I think a lot of people are.

“It’s boxing at the end of the day, so we’ll see, but I think it’s Usyk.”
