Italy stuck in German traffic ahead of Nations League match

There is the risk Italy’s Nations League match against Germany could be delayed, as the team bus was not given a police escort and left stuck in traffic.

The game is meant to kick off at Borussia Monchengladbach’s stadium at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT).

The Azzurri finally arrived at least 30 minutes behind schedule at Borussia Park, with barely time to get warmed up.

According to RAI Sport, the team bus was not given a police escort and therefore got stuck in rush-hour traffic.

It is not clear why the Italian squad was not given this traditional accompaniment to the stadium when the German bus did have the path cleared.

Germany have drawn all three of their Nations League matches so far, including a 1-1 result in Bologna 10 days ago.

Italy are top of the group with five points.
