Barcelona: Gavi’s release clause changes to 100m euros

Gavi and Barcelona have been negotiating over a potential contract renewal, but there has been no agreement between the two parties thus far.

Meanwhile, the Spain international has attracted interested from several European clubs and it is believed that Premier League giants Liverpool and Manchester City would be willing to trigger his 50 million euro buyout clause.

However, there is a deadline concerning the validity of this clause, as it will increase to 100m euros this June, as stated in the contract he signed in September 2020.

Despite the fact that Gavi‘s progress has been spectacular over the last year, there would not be many suitors willing to pay 100m euros for the youngster.

Gavi‘s intention is to stay put and thrive at Barcelona. Negotiations have not been easy, as his agent Ivan de la Pena is pushing to achieve a better deal than the one offered by a financially struggling Barcelona.

Last weekend, president Joan Laporta claimed that the two parties were very close to reaching an agreement and renewing his contract.

As for Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona coach considers Gavi‘s contract extension as fundamental for the team and he counts on the youngster, as he already showed throughout last season.
