This Saturday, Athletic Club and Celta de Vigo faced off in an important match for the Basques’ European hopes. At home, Ernesto Valverde’s men opened the scoring following a superb cross from Oscar de Marcos who found Inaki Williams’ header (1-0, 5th). Well back in his meeting, Bilbao was then jostled but finally held thanks to the parades of Unai Simon (32nd) and despite the cold sweats caused by the Norwegian striker Jörgen Strand Larsen.

It was precisely the latter who put the two teams equal after returning from the locker room thanks to an angry header (1-1, 50th). A futile reaction because a few minutes later, Alex Berenguer put the premises in front thanks to an unstoppable strike in the area (2-1, 53rd). This same Berenguer could even have afforded a double but the crossbar decided otherwise (69th). However, going back in front, Bilbao never let go of the controls of this meeting and finally returned to success after four games without a win in La Liga. A good and timely result: these three points allow Yuri Berchiche’s teammates to grab seventh place synonymous with the Europa League Conference.
