The Chargers’ anime schedule release video broke the internet again in 2023

The Los Angeles Chargers shamelessly went the same route they took in 2022: releasing their 2023 schedule on Thursday night with an over two-minute Japanese animation style video.

In their mini animation film titled Schedule Release II, a catchy rock song with Japanese lyrics begins to play. As animated football players fly through the air, they are awaited by a manga version of star Justin Herbert. The franchise QB busts out his robotic arm and begins to shoots an electric current toward his foes.

The video then goes week-through-week starting with the Dolphins, and a vaping mastermind, clearly meant to represent head coach Mike McDaniel. Week 2 then shows Tennessee charging their robot star running back Derrick Henry.

Week 5 then pans to their bye week, as the team’s animate characters peacefully fishes from a creek. Then eventually getting to week 13, where an evil mastermind Bill Belichick, donning his iconic gray hoodie, analyzes a lair full of TVs.

It’s the Chargers second time doing an anime video

If it isn’t broken, why fix it? The sequel of the Chargers’ content team, which operates an entire Pacific Ocean away from Japan, fueled the magic of anime to the delight of all NFL fans.

The animation and subtle shade at other teams took the video to another level. Even hinting at the Zach Wilson scandal with the (now) backup QB walking through Times Square with a “Single Cougars in Your Area” billboard in the background.

“Should we REALLY make our schedule release video an anime AGAIN?”, the team asked. Well, the answer is YES.
