In a stunning reveal during the April 26th episode of The Masked Singer, the Gargoyle was finally unmasked, and it turned out to be none other than NFL player Keenan Allen.
The Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver wowed the audience with his musical talent and his impressive voice, but it wasn’t just his singing that caught everyone’s attention.
After his unmasking, the NFL star revealed why he decided to join the popular reality show. “I love the show. I’ve seen a bunch of people do it before like T-Pain and Teyana Taylor and just kind of fell in love with their performances,” he said.
“I always wanted to do it. I was wanting to be a part of that experience and, obviously, wanted to show my music side. I have kind of a split personality that goes into a different atmosphere, and being able to shed a light on that side of me is great.”
Keenan shared that he’s been singing since he was just 8 years old, starting out as part of the gospel choir at his church and then participating in the chorus in middle school. The football player even has plans to pursue music in the future. “Absolutely. I’m doing that as we speak,” he said.
Despite being used to wearing heavy football gear, Keenan admitted that performing in the Gargoyle costume was “really difficult.” The mask was all foamed out, making it hard to breathe, and the limited visibility made him nervous about what could happen on stage. “You had to hold the mic at a certain position, which was tough. It was difficult. And those wings I had on… jeesh,” he said.
Keenan Allen shares how football training helped him on The Masked Singer
Although his football training helped him prepare for the show, Keenan admitted that it wasn’t as much as he thought. “With this thing, you have the mic in your hand. Everybody’s looking at you, and you can’t really mess up. You’re singing somebody else’s song, so you really don’t want to mess up but then again you’re not really comfortable. It was tough for me because I’m not a professional singer or anything like that,” he explained.
Finally, Keenan revealed that he wasn’t nervous about performing on stage, but he was starstruck by the show’s panelists, including Robin Thicke and Nicole Scherzinger.
