Nashville SC receives an international roster spot from FC Cincinnati

Nashville SC acquired an international roster spot from FC Cincinnati in exchange for $175,000 in General Allocation Money.

The Gary Smith-led side will look to strengthen their roster before the MLS Primary transfer window closes on Monday, April 24th. Though Nashville has seen a decent start to the 2023 Major League Soccer campaign, sitting in sixth place in the Eastern Conference with 11 points through eight games, the team will continue to search for depth on the squad.

With defender Nick DePuy injured for the foreseeable future with a torn achilles, Nashville may use their newly acquired international roster spot for another center back. On March 10th, DePuy was put on the Season-Ending Injury List, where he won’t be eligible to play for the club in future competitions this year.

Despite DePuy’s injury, Nashville has an impressive list of central defenders that start for them regularly. Center back Walker Zimmerman and his partner Jack Maher are having a phenomenal start to the year, keeping five clean sheets and completing over 29 headed clearances.

A large part of Nashville’s stinginess at the back is due to the heroics of goalkeeper Joe Willis. Willis has a league-high 87.5% save percentage and has prevented 4.0 goals per 90 for the men in gold.

Nashville’s attack is led by attacking midfielder Hany Muhkatar and his strike partner CJ Sapong. Mukhtar has enjoyed a fantastic start to the year with two goals and three assists in eight games.

Nashville will continue its MLS campaign this Saturday, April 22nd, as they take on a red-hot LAFC at GEODIS Park in Nashville, Tennessee.
