Lionel Messi gives away La Liga Best Player award

Leandro Paredes has revealed that Lionel Messi gave him his Sofascore La Liga 2020/21 Best Player award.

Messi is a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, with 10 La Liga titles, four Champions League wins, a Copa America title, and most recently, a World Cup trophy.

The Argentine also has several individual trophies, but one of them is now in the hands of Paredes.

While Paredes was showing cameras around his home, he disclosed that he had asked Messi for the award, and Messi readily gave it to him.

“He arrived in Paris, I asked him if he would give it to me and he gave it to me, Paredes told Sofi Martinez Mateos.

Messi may soon have the opportunity to win more trophies in La Liga as former employers Barcelona are looking to lure him back to Camp Nou this summer.

90min understands that Messi is not expected to extend his stay in Paris beyond this summer, although his next destination is far from certain.

Barcelona are planning further talks with Messi’s entourage, although the Blaugrana still have plenty of work to do to meet La Liga’s salary regulations before they can even entertain the idea of re-signing Messi.

On this edition of Talking Transfers, part of the 90min podcast network, Scott SaundersGraeme Bailey & Toby Cudworth discuss a potential midfield merry-go-round this summer, Victor Osimhen’s chances of joining Chelsea, Mason Mount and Conor Gallagher’s futures, Harry Kane, Ilkay Gundogan, Ousmane Dembele & more!
