Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth announced on Friday their decision to divorce. They have been together for almost 12 years, and have one son.
Witherspoon stressed that the decision was amicable, but according to reports the former couple lived separate lives before ending their marriage.
“It is with a great deal of care and consideration that we have made the difficult decision to divorce,” read their joint statement.
“We have enjoyed so many wonderful years together and are moving forward with deep love, kindness and mutual respect for everything we have created together. Our biggest priority is our son and our entire family as we navigate this next chapter.”
According to RadarOnline.com, Witherspoon and Toth could “go days without interacting and if they do, it’s usually about [their son] Tennessee.”
Meanwhile, an insider told the aforementioned publication that “Jim is hardly ever with her”.
What were the reasons for the breakup?
Personality differences and Witherspoon’s busy schedule are two of the main reasons that led the pair to a divorce.
“Reese is always on the move. She’s the kind of woman who bounces off the walls, whereas Jim is a placid dude,” a source told RadarOnline.com.
“The hecticness that surrounds Reese is a lot and sometimes hard to handle.”
Others saw it coming, as an insider noted that months ago that “Jim is hardly ever with her and it wasn’t always like that.”
“Friends are worried that they’ve stopped putting the work in,” the source added.
“Ask anyone and they’ll admit that Reese and Jim have their ups and downs, but they are very committed to making this marriage work.
“Moving to Nashville will hopefully give them a chance to slow down and spend more quality time together.”
