Mason Mount likely to join Liverpool amid Chelsea contract doubt

Journalist Jacque Talbot has claimed that Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could leave in the summer with “a few things going on” behind the scenes at the Blues.

What’s the latest on Mason Mount and Chelsea?

It’s no secret that the Englishman’s future is up in the air. Indeed, as per the Daily Mail, with under 18 months left on his current contract, he has turned down an offer worth more than £200,000 per week and is not currently close to agreeing on fresh terms.

While this goes on, certain reports suggest that Liverpool could be ready to swoop in and sign Mount – although other Premier League teams such as Manchester United and Manchester City have also been linked.

Speaking about the situation on his own YouTube channel, Talbot claimed that the Reds are currently leading the race and while there is still time for that to change, something is clearly amiss behind the scenes at Chelsea and so a departure is looking likely.

Commenting on whether he thinks Mount would join Liverpool, he said: “I don’t know if he will or not, I don’t know. There’s certainly interest there. And he’s turning down a new deal.

“I will say that I think they’ll make a go for him. But I’m not sure whether he will 100% go there.

“If you had to go, like, [who has] the most chance right now, I’d say probably Liverpool. But, you know, it’s February, so there’s so much more that can happen. He could sign a new deal, that might be plausible.

“I guess you’re not really able to determine anything until the window is open again. But there’s certainly a line there – a lot going on in the background and they [Liverpool] like him, it makes a lot of sense.

“And clearly he hasn’t signed a new deal at Chelsea, there’s a few things going on there, so it is possible.”

Would Mount leave Chelsea for Liverpool?

On top of the English clubs already listed, Italian giants Juventus have also been named as a potential suitor and it looks as though there will be plenty of competition for the midfielder this summer.

With that in mind, Mount may feel as though he doesn’t need to renew at Chelsea as there are potentially bigger opportunities and bigger wages on offer elsewhere.

Of course, from a purely footballing point of view too, he might be concerned about his game time with the Blues. After all, Todd Boehly spent big money this winter on key signings such as Enzo Fernandez, Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile, Joao Felix, Noni Madueke, Malo Gusto and others.

With the club owner so willing to splash the cash on new players, Mount may feel as though a handful of signings could be made this summer too which could force him out of the first team and onto the bench in the future.

Taking it all into account, it really does feel as though the 24-year-old might be off at the end of the season.
