Guardiola on Haaland’s slump: It’s Manchester City’s fault, not his

The lack of bite in attack that has been making life difficult for Manchester City has little to do with the figure of Erling Haaland, perhaps the fiercest goalscoring striker on the face of the Earth.

That’s according to Pep Guardiola, who defended the player, who is smashing all kinds of records for goalscoring prowess in the Premier League, where he has 26 goals in 23 games.

However, there are doubts about the Norwegian’s involvement in the team’s play beyond just scoring goals.

This is exactly what Guardiola was asked about in his last press conference, to which the Catalan coach was categorical.

“It’s our fault, not Erling‘s,” he responded as he defended his striker.

“He has been impressive all season.

Haaland has gone just two games without a goal in the Premier League and Champions League, but such a minuscule period is a drought for a striker like him.

“He is moving very well, we just have to look for him a little bit more,” Guardiola added, as he played down the importance of that streak.
