Barça is in the eye of the storm. According to AS and the Padlock Ser, the Catalan club is currently the target of an investigation by the Spanish prosecutor’s office, which suspects it of having made secret payments to the company of José María Enríquez Negreira, a former Spanish referee. Appointed vice-president of the Technical Committee of Referees in 1994, a position he held until May 2018, Enríquez Negreira is said to have collected the sum of €1,392,680 over his last three years in office.
Questioned by Spanish tax inspectors, Enríquez Negreira did not provide “no document proving that he had rendered a service to FC Barcelona”, according to the administration. The former referee also confided in Spanish radio Padlock Serensuring that his job was to advise the Barça club and that he had never favored the Catalan club in any arbitration decision.
