Cowboys legend Emmitt Smith loses his father and NFL world supports him on social media

One of the NFL’s all-time great stars is former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith, who holds the record for most yards gained as a running back and is a Hall of Famer.

But, in addition, Smith is one of the most beloved characters in the NFL world, so now that he made a devastating announcement on his social media, former teammates, fans and the general public did not hesitate to express their support for him through the same medium.

Emmitt, who played 15 years in the league and won three Super Bowl with the Cowboys, made his father’s passing known on Tuesday night:

“The man who inspired me to play the game of football has transitioned by the lord. I will miss your timely advice but will hold onto the things you and my first love taught me, my brothers and sisters. Love you Pop,” he wrote.

Receives words of encouragement from the NFL world

Immediately, Emmitt began receiving words of comfort and encouragement from fans, former teammates and the general public.

“I’m so sorry to hear this. Glad you got to spend time with him a few weeks ago,” responded one user on Twitter.

“Prayers up my brother. you look just like your dad! ‘However, God’s foundation stands sure, Having this seal, the Lord knows those who are his.’ You are in good hands,” wrote another former NFL player, Spencer Tillman.

“I’m praying for you now, brother,” said former pro tight end Benjamin Watson.

With more than 16.4K likes, and more than 1,400 responses, Smith received support from all sides.
