French lash out at Galtier and call for him to leave PSG: We have a coach who is strictly useless

PSG manager Christophe Galtier is the target of criticism in France after the Parisian team’s defeat in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 against Bayern Munich, against whom they lost by the narrowest of margins.

The French team also lost to Marseille in the Coupe de France recently and followed that up with a defeat to Monaco in Ligue 1.

Galtier is branded as useless

In an opinion column published in RMC Sport, one of France’s leading sports media, they have thrown everything at the coach, calling him useless.

“There is no coaching in this team,” the column by journalist Daniel Riolo begins.

“We have a coach who is strictly useless because he is devoured by the status of the players, by the stars he is obliged to play but who are no longer at all at the level.

“I imagine that, not knowing at all what to do, not being able to tell his players to press because they are not used to doing it, he told himself that everyone would stay back, wait as much as possible and if ever in the second half, Mbappe felt he had to come back, wait for a counterattack.

“It’s not a game project.”

French media believe Galtier should leave PSG

But Riolo went further, noting that Galtier should leave the bench of the Parisian club, expressing that he does nothing.

“PSG has has incredible resources for 10 years, the stars parade at the club, the wage bill explodes all ceilings and they take a coach who has never played a round of 16 in the Champions League, explain to me the logic,” the columnist raged.

“He gets to the round of 16 and doesn’t know what to do, is he a victim? If you want to play defensively, we can say that.

“He obviously has to leave the club as soon as possible because he is strictly useless.

“We haven’t seen a tactic like this in the European Cup since the 2000s.

“I said it before the game: PSG will not be able to do anything because tactically, it is absolute nothingness since the beginning of the season, contrary to what we want to believe since the arrival of Christophe Galtier.

“He does nothing. Being coach of PSG to offer a line of four, a game 30 meters from his line, a similar nothing in the European Cup…

“Since the Qataris have been at this club, PSG has never played a European Cup match in this way.

“It is an absolute disgrace, an admission of failure, a great weakness.”

Criticism reaches Neymar and Messi

Messi and Neymar, two of PSG’s star players were also not spared the harsh criticism from the French press.

L’Equipe took it upon themselves to point out the shortcomings that both players showed in the game against Bayern Munich.

“He first made a difference in one-on-one before, seeing little support, being extinguished by shots from two or three men,” the newspaper noted of the Argentine’s performance.

“Result: minimal influence on the animation and no danger until the entry of Mbappe who awakened the game.

“He gave away dangerous turnovers too.”

While Neymar did not come out well either.

“By his movements between lines he proposed solutions but his use of the ball was of rare inefficiency, between loss of ball or a systematic choice to go for the individual solution given the collective weakness,” they said of the Brazilian.

“He was not forgiven by the Germans”.
