PSG vs Bayern Munich | Champions League: PSG’s belief in Mbappe

For Paris Saint-Germain, almost the entire season is at stake in just three weeks.

That’s the time period they have to prepare for a trip to Munich, next March 8, after losing 0-1 at the Parc des Princes.

But the road to the return leg of the Round of 16 will not be easy, as to begin with, they host Lille at their home stadium this Sunday and the following matchday, another Classico at the Velodrome, where they lost last week in the Coupe de France.

After three consecutive defeats, it is vital for the Qatari-owned side to get back on track to reach the second leg of the round of 16 with confidence.

There is no doubt that for Christophe Galtier‘s men, who host Nantes three days before the big game, getting good results would be an important boost, in addition to the messages that are being sent from the dressing room and the club that a comeback is possible.

Mbappe as the leader

PSG and its fans are clinging to Kylian Mbappe, while the dressing room believes it is possible to win at the Allianz Arena.

They believe that with Mbappe on the pitch they were a superior team and hope that he will be in top condition for the match on March 8, given that he was only able to play half an hour of the match on Tuesday.

Something similar is expected of Lionel Messi, who has arrived at the first leg in very poor condition, and the group is convinced that the team will arrive with everyone ready.

“We have to eat well, rest well, recover everyone. Nothing is lost,” Mbappe, who once again stood up to face the press on behalf of his teammates in the mixed zone to send a message of optimism.

“PSG are always the favorites,” he said before leaving the circle he formed with French journalists.

Ramos, the other reason

The other reason to believe in PSG is Sergio Ramos, who played superbly against Bayern and who also sent a message to the fans on social media that nothing is decided and that they will fight until the end.

The Parc des Princes seems to have given the team a truce until the match in Munich.

This time all the players, with Ramos, Messi and Neymar at the head, went to the stand where the ultras of their team cheer to thank them for their support.

Last Sunday, a group of fans went to Camp des Loges, the team’s training center, to ask for explanations for the situation that the team is going through and voice their displeasure with some of their players who, after losing in Monaco, went to the locker room without thanking the support of their fans.

Galtier and the squad also hope to arrive at the match in better condition and not only because of Mbappe’s injury.

Achraf Hakimi is also injured and left at half-time, Marco Verratti has just returned and Messi has also arrived out of shape for the first leg after being injured in Marseille.

Al Khelaifi, ready to make decisions

The club, for its part, with Nasser Al Khelaifi at the helm, is also waiting for the return leg before making any decisions.

Galtier has not been able to get things back on track this 2023 and has not found the formula despite the good start that kept them unbeaten even before the Christmas break and the World Cup.

The Champions League is the club’s number one objective and with the arrival of Messi they do not expect to go out in the round of 16.

The club now are obsessed with overcoming this round, which they have only done twice out of the last seven years, against Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona, while they lost last year to Real Madrid.
